Products Review: Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Oil-Free Face Primer For Sensitive Skin

Hello chica.

I am Kathleen Lights #1 fan. She’s a very famous Beauty Guru on youtube. If you want to check out her channel you can do it here and subscribe if you find her interesting. She’s bubbly, fun and so freaking talented. A true artist I must say. Easy on the eyes too, so attractive. She does a lot of products review and in one of her video she said that Too Faced products never let her down.

So, when I went to Sephora,Nu Sentral last week on a mission of finding new face primer, without hesitation I went straight away to the Too Faced isle. I asked for help from one of the girl there and I decided to pick the Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pure Oil-Free Face Primer For Sensitive Skin because I definitely have oily skin and I’m prone to acne. If you’re like me you know it’s really hard to keep the face looking matte by the end of the day. So, yeaaaa I bought my very first high end primer and Too Faced product.

Products ingredients:

Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crossploymer, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Camellia Oleifera Seed Oil, Mica, Phenoxyethanol, Silica, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Cyclodextrin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Retinol, Diacetyl Boldine, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Arctostaphylos Uva Ursi Leaf Extract, Morus Alba Bark Extract, Polysorbate 80, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hedra Helix (Ivy) Extract, BHT, Cycloheptasiloxane, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Bioflavonoids, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Allantoin, Bismuth Oxychloride (CI 77163), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

I read it somewhere that the first ingredient listed is usually the main ingredient of the product. Correct me if I’m wrong. So what is Dimethicone? I’m not a chemist but this is my finding from Mr.Google:

One of the most widely used ingredients in cosmetics, dimethicone works as an anti-foaming agent, skin protectant and skin & hair conditioner- it prevents water loss by forming a hydrating barrier on the skin. Like most silicones, this ingredient has a unique fluidity that makes it easily spreadable. When applied to the skin, its known for creating a subtle gloss that feels smooth and silky to touch. It also acts a mild water repellent by forming a protective barrier on the skin, and can fill in fine lines/wrinkles on the face, giving it a temporary “plump” look.Source: truthinaging.com

I took this picture just after I finished my makeup. As you can see, it really leaves my skin looking smooth(except for that big ass pimples, hehe) and my pores are also invisible.

This is after nearly 3 hours and as you can see, foundation around my forehead has wears off a little. You can see clearly appearance of my whiteheads.

Fuh.. After nearly 7 hours, I can say that my face is not that oily but my foundation and blush have gone. I can blame Malaysia’s humidity for this.

Can you see any difference? You be the judge.

Reasons why you should splurge: This primer comes in a squeezy tube which I find very convenience and quite hygienic. The texture of this primer is like petroleum gel(vaseline) and it doesn’t have any colour(clear) to it so it blended pretty well into my skin, I don’t have to worry about it looking cakey or matching it to my skin tone. It also immediately leaves my skin feeling soft and very smooth. I also believe it improves my complexion after wearing my foundation, minimising my wrinkles and pores. Well, I think that’s Dimethicone doing it’s job. I only have two face primer in my collection, one is Revlon Photoready Color Correcting Primer and as you know I just added Too Faced primer in my collection so I can’t really compare it to another high end products. If compares to Revlon Photoready Color Correcting Primer, I do believe Too Faced primer really did an awesome job in controlling all that nasty oil.

Reasons why you should think twice: It’s a little bit pricey in my opinion but that’s what you have to pay to own high end products. So, I can’t complain. But is it worth the money I paid? I can give this product 5 stars for controlling oil but I think it can leave my skin looking pretty dull. I’m not so sure about the ability of this primer to make my makeup last longer because from the picture above you can see that after 7 hours of application my foundation has faded away.  The humidity in Malaysia is crazy, so maybe if you live in a much colder climate this might be good for you.

Verdict: In my opinion, this is an ok primer.  Maybe I’m not setting my foundation with a good powder hence the foundation fades away. Or maybe it was because my foundation is not long lasting. I don’t know, it can be a lot of things. Some people say that Too Faced Primed & Powerless Priming Powder is pretty badass, maybe I should buy that too? Hehe.

Where to buy: Sephora

Price: RM119

Thank you so much for reading.

Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

Hi there. great review on the too faced pure primer i must say coz i’ve been eyeing this product online n comparing it to the primed n poreless “pink” version. I’ve been browsing youtubers reviewing this n they all seem to like this very much, n quite convincing..but they were non-malaysians.. Until i found ur blog and it seems that our hot weather really had at it yea. ?

Did u by any chance tried the pink bottle too?
Coz currently sephora online n in sunway pyramid didn’t this version.

      Hi Mard,

Thank you so much for taking your time to comment. No , I haven’t had the chance to try out the pink one yet but after I’m done with the too faced primer I bought Smashbox photo finish primer and 3 banila.co primer. They all seemed good for first few hours but unfortunately, they didn’t last that long too. Yeah Malaysia weather is pretty harsh hence the struggle to find a primer that can really do the job. I was eyeing those primer from makeup forever but they’re RM180 each. Too expensive.

Forgot to mentioned that I also owned the revlon primer.. Got it on sale. But i usually forgot that n go out with other primer instead. ? Never tried wearing it outdoor. Maybe i can give it a try.

It’s really hard to find the perfect primer which suits our weather kan? Have u found yours?

    • Sae Says

Hey, one thing I want to say about the revlon primer is it can congest ur pores. Not really good to use if you have open pores and oily skin like me.

Haha.. I’m afraid the search will continue. Its really hard to find one that suits our weather and our own skin need. Hopefully, I answer your question..

      Thank you ?

hey there. It took me a while to trace back your blog. sorry. ? heh. maybe you should put the “notify me when…. bla bla bla reply” sumthing like that notification. hehe

Well, I did try the “pink” version of too faced primer when I was at midvalley last Saturday, and purposely didn’t put any makeup just so I can try the primer and etc. haha ?
And it does get oily for after few hours, so I didn’t bought that 1 and chose thebalm primer. (bought it online, since sephora store didn’t carry this) n just received the item today. can’t wait to try it tomorrow since I got a wedding to attend. hehe

Well, did you get anything for the 20% sale at sephora recently?

I love reading your blog. been tabbing the older post whenever I can get a hold of your blog. hehe. keep up the good work. ?

      Hi there!

Omg I dunno how I didn’t notice you replied my comment. Yeah. I think I should look into that so that people can get notification when I reply their comments right?

So, what’s your verdict on the balm primer? Nowadays my skin is so dry because I tried new skin care by Paula’s Choice. When the condition of my skin change, I have to change almost all of my face products. It’s a nightmare but I like that I rarely get acne since I changed to Paula’s choice.

Yeah. I got few products during the 20% Sephora sale but then the foundation that I bought was in the wrong shade and I couldn’t get an exchange. I was so bumped about that and felt angry at the same time because the sales rep at Sephora was the one that colour matched me to the foundation. I think she purposely gave me the wrong shade because my shade was out of stock at the moment. One thing that I learned is never trust the sales rep opinion.

You know what Mard? Your comment really made my day. I didn’t know that people read my blog and come back to read some more. Thank you dear.
